WHO WILL FEED NEWMAN’S HUNGRY IN LOCKDOWN?
A Yamaji-Marlpa woman who cooks and donates meals to hungry people in Newman said she was worried about how self-isolating families would cope if COVID struck the town.
“It’s mainly just about feeding the people,” she said.
“I know if COVID was to hit here and people were in lockdown in their homes, what is going to happen to them? Who is going to be there for them?
“Who is going to be with their full PPE, going to their houses and giving them food? And cleaning and making sure the children are OK?
“Though people say ‘they have probably got agencies to do that’ culturally none of them know how to work closely with the Aboriginal people up this way.”
Sandra Collard said she received no donations, other than help from a couple of friends.
She said she did not want to handle donations of money, but would welcome anyone wanting to donate ingredients.
