A total of 16 new Aboriginal cadets graduated from the WA Police Academy at Joondalup recently.

Cadet Jeremiah Rodney said half of the new Indigenous recruits were from the country, and each of them would be working at a station near their own home for the next 12 months.

He said he would be based at South Hedland where he lives.

“Some days I’ll be on the front counter, other days I’ll be at the back of a police car with some Constables, learning and following them around,” Cadet Rodney said.

He said at the end of 12 months’ service they had the opportunity to be sworn in as constables.
