Today is World No Tobacco Day, and a leading WA medical professional has said vaping could become a “public health disaster”.

Australian Medical Association WA (AMAWA) President Mark Duncan-Smith said leaders needed to get out in front of the problem to prevent vaping creating a health crisis, like the one caused by cigarettes.

“We really as a society need to mount a campaign against vaping,” Dr Duncan-Smith said.

“The big tobacco companies that control vaping products really are targeting our children with things like bubblegum flavours and nicely coloured packets that look like toys.

“We really need to stop this in its tracks so we don’t end up with another public health disaster like what tobacco was for the 1970s and 1980s.”
