In the Pilbara town of Newman, the Martu Foot Patrol Program is expanding after noticeable signs of success.

The program targets children wandering the streets of Newman after hours and provides kids with meals and a safe space.

Newman Women's Shelter Community Service Officer Jay Newhouse said the patrols are having a noticeable impact, as increasingly fewer children are being picked up.

We’ve increased our Martu staff pool, which has been really good.

“There’s been a lot of training going on and a lot of commitment from the staff.”
