GURRIDYULA TALKS VOICE TO PARLIAMENT AND UPCOMING GIG AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
A traditional custodian campaigning to protect cultural heritage in Central Queensland has said the Voice to Parliament will only be worthwhile if it protects sacred sites.
For more than 600 days, Wangan and Jagalingou custodian Gurridyula Gaba Wungu has led an occupation of his country to oppose the Adani Carmichael coal mine.
Gurridyula said he doubted significant heritage sites like WA’s Burrup Peninsula would be protected by the Voice.
“Will that Voice panel stop Murujuga from being destroyed?” he asked.
“Because if it won’t, then what’s the point in voting ‘yes’?”
Gurridyula said he planned to abstain from voting in the referendum.
