RSPCA COMMUNITY EVENT HAPPENING IN BROOME
In the Kimberley, the RSPCA will hold a community Action day in Broome tomorrow.
The event will be an opportunity for owners to get their pets registered, chipped, and take home free pet food.
Broome RSPCA Inspector Wayne Moroney said the event is designed to help pet owners impacted by the cost of living crisis.
“It’s to assist and help out for those who are finding it a little hard,” he said.
“You’ve got vet fees, you’ve got registration. you’ve got food for the dogs.”
He said when household budgets tighten, often it’s the pets themselves that bear the impact.
“All the stress is put on the household budget and a lot of things get left behind or left aside,” he said.
“In a lot of cases it turns out to be the dog food or the pet food so they’re not getting enough food.
“They tend to lose weight people will see that and then we get reports about animal cruelty: dogs looking skinny or not being fed or tethered all day on a short leash not being able to get to food and water.”
The event will span over two days and be held at the Broome Court House markets on Saturday 22nd and at Goolari Media on Sunday 23rd.
