COSSACK ARTS AWARD WINNERS TO BE ANNOUNCED TOMORROW

The winners of the Cossack Art Award in the Pilbara will be announced tomorrow. 

The Awards are eligible to Australian artists over the ages of 16 and aim to showcase a diverse range of art styles.

Categories include best over all artwork, best artwork by a Pilbara artist, People’s choice award, Portraits, and North West Fauna and Flora. 

Artists Sioux Tempest, James Giddy, and David Spencer travelled from Perth and judged the art pieces on Wednesday.

James Giddy said that it has been interesting to judge the artwork without knowing the artist.

“I think it was really cool,” he said.

“I guess just looking at it as an artist and without knowing who they were and just assuming that person must have had decades of experience to paint that.

“You are making assumptions on these paintings just based on what you’re looking at.

“And a lot of them are just so sophisticated and considered in their approach, it’s a really high caliber.”
