Kununurra’s Waringarri Radio has a new manager in Fernando de Freitas.

Mr de Freitas said he had a solid background in broadcasting, with more than 10 years as a producer and presenter for the ABC in Darwin, Alice Springs and Sydney; and with community radio at Byron Bay FM for four years.

He said he was keen to revamp the station with a new tag line: “Bringing the East Kimberley together.”

“We are going to get more people involved, get more programs up, and come back, be back as a real force in community radio,” he said. “It’s a great station. I’ve gone through the photos of the history of it. It’s over 30 years and those who built it, some of them that are still around, I’m hoping to get them back involved for the resurrection of Waringarri Radio. I need all the help I can get.”
