An Indigenous legal academic has criticised Opposition Leader Peter Dutton following an apology he gave to the Parliament yesterday for boycotting the National Apology to the stolen generation.

Curtin University Professor Dr. Hannah McGlade accused Mr. Dutton of repeating mistakes he made during the time of the National Apology in his stance on the Voice to Parliament Referendum.

‘‘He’s repeating the mistakes of the past and I think it’s time that Australia moved on and become more respectful and sophisticated in terms of Indigenous engagement,’’ she said.

Dr. McGlade described Dutton’s decision to oppose the Voice to Parliament as a mistake.

‘‘Peter Dutton, he made a bad decision then, he seems to be making a bad decision today to criticise unduly and without proper basis the Federal Government’s commitment to the voice’’.
