KARRATHA HEADSPACE CENTRE OFFICIALLY OPENS

The new Headspace centre in the Pilbara was officially opened yesterday.

Yesterday, an official opening ceremony was held in Karratha for Australia’s 150th Headspace centre.

The facility has been operating for a year, offering mental health support to local youth aged 12-25.

25% of youth who have used the facility have been Indigenous, according to Headspace.

Ngarluma Yindjibarndi man Clinton Walker performed a Welcome to Country at the event.

He said it was great local youth could access the service for support.

“Its something that’s really near and dear to me,” he said.

“I am a sufferer of mental health problems.

“I’ve had family who have lost their lives, so it is something I am very happy to support.”
