HITCHHIKERS IN SIGHTS OF ROEBOURNE POLICE

In the Pilbara, Roebourne Police have warned they are currently targeting hitchhiking.

Roebourne Acting Senior Sergeant Joel Wright said it wasn’t widely known that hitchhiking is against the law.

“You cant stand on a road surface, or even the shoulder or medium strip of the road, and flag down a car,” he said.

“It is illegal. Not only that: it’s dangerous.

“We are in an area where most of our main roads have very high-speed limits. The last thing we want is someone getting squashed.”
