KARRATHA FAMILY ‘HOLD THE LINE’ AND SHARE WHY
KARRATHA MOTHER HOLLY DRUMMOND SHARED AN OPEN LETTER ABOUT THE NO JAB NO JOB MANDATE
“Well, here we are. Dan’s last day of work, as tonight at midnight he will no longer be allowed on site. Thus “breaching” his contract by not performing his duties and this will be subject to disciplinary action. Termination.
Because he hasn’t presented a Covid-19 vaccine certificate.
19 years in the trade. 14 years a fully qualified carpenter. 11 years in construction. 3.5 years in his current position. All of this dwindle to unemployable for now, tomorrow, and the foreseeable future.
Now we figure out how to sidestep around this. Get a different job? 75% of Western Australia’s workforce has been mandated.
This leaves so few jobs to choose from and of those, which can we actually apply for? My sister and her partner also received their letters and will serve their last day of employment today, because they’re not interested in the available Covid-19 vaccinations. My mum will go in tomorrow to get a shot she isn’t ready for but will do so to maintain employment for the job she loves.
As a lot of our friends and family will know, we’ve been pretty skeptical of this pandemic from the start. The hysteria, the control, and the structure of the funding/government borrowing have been pretty fishy from the get-go. So you could agree that we had our heels dug in, we had done biased research and surrounded ourselves with others that have the same views.
And then the mandate was announced. December 1st, present your Covid-19 vaccine certificate or face termination.
We had 6 weeks to get together and to actually be honest with ourselves; Should we just get the jab? It’s in our best interest to keep Dan employed - We have huge investment debt, children that we love putting into all the extra activities and we live a pretty relaxed life. We love what we have and we REALLY don’t want to jeopardise it.
And so we contemplated getting the shot. We looked at the benefits, the reality of an adverse effect actually happening, if there was an adverse effect who would be liable? Etc.
And we kept hitting brick walls; the benefits weren’t for us, no one’s liable, we’ll have to continue with boosters, there is no guarantee that you’ll be safe and ultimately, are there long term effects?
The question is dodged and the answer we’re given is “most adverse effects appear within a short amount of time, it’s safe”. That still doesn’t answer our question; what are the long term effects?
Believe me when I say we tried to make it sit right, our lives would be a lot easier if we could convince ourselves that this shot is for us; we could hopefully travel again, stay employed, enjoy our life the way it is. We wouldn’t have to watch our family and friends get uncomfortable when we say we’re not moving forward with the mandate, we wouldn’t have to pretend like we haven’t noticed the radio silence from friends since being open about our stance, we’d be able to get home and see our nieces and nephews, all the new babies we’re yet to meet in NZ.
I understand why a lot of people have had theirs - lower the spread, lower the symptoms and you appreciate the benefits more than the risks. You’ve got the armor you feel you need for when you encounter Covid, and that’s great! I truly support and respect you for making a conscious choice for your health. And it should remain that; A CHOICE
We aren’t doing this to just “push” against society, to be a rebel, because we’re “misinformed” or because we’re conspiracy theorists. There is so much to lose by not complying with these ultimatums. But too much of this doesn’t add up and we’re just not willing to overlook the holes.
I’m sharing this not to spark controversy, but hopefully, reach others that feel the same way as us. And to remind anyone else that needs to hear this; critical thinking is ok and questioning agendas is ok.
Even if your friends or work peers scoff at your uncertainty and challenge you, give you the “oh cmon you’ve had far worse stuff in your body than these!!”, you’re not crazy and you’re not out of your league. It’s your body and it should remain your choice. I encourage you to do your research - you might find nothing, you might find something..
For everyone that has been affected by mandates, whether you’ve had to face termination like Dan, my sister, and her partner or you’ve had to go get these injections like so many of our friends and family not of your own will but to keep employment, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry we’ve been backed into this corner, we were given so little time and no choice.
If you feel the same way we do, please use your voice. Before these mandates reach our children and their education.
