FITZROY RODEO CANCELLED

A water tank melted by fire at Fitzroy Crossing Rodeo Ground.

In the Central Kimberley, Fitzroy Crossing’s rodeo and campdraft has been cancelled this year.

Rodeo club president Chris Towne said “devastating vandalism of the grounds and reduction of cattle availability” left them with no choice but to cancel the 2022 annual campdraft and rodeo. 

“The committee exhausted all avenues to try and run the event in Fitzroy at a later date but unfortunately we were just unable to make this work,” he wrote.

“We will now work towards fixing and repairing the grounds up to enable us to run a bigger and better event in 2023.”

The future of this year’s event had been in doubt since a fire destroyed water tanks and equipment at the rodeo grounds last month.

Police said the fire was not deliberately lit.
