On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, the Department of Justice held Aboriginal Justice Open Days at 50 Cent Hall in Roebourne.

At the events, locals could access assistance with legal services, identification, fines, and driver’s licenses.

The days also provided locals with the opportunity to gain proof of written identification.

Yindjibarndi Elder Judith Coppin said access to photo I.D was important for a number of everyday necessities.

‘‘They (locals) don’t have a health card, you know? And it’s all I.d and Birth Certificate, those things you know? If you get sick and you go on the plane and you wanna go to the shop you gotta have your photo I.D, your card, your medical things, you know?’’ She said.

‘‘Traveling too. No matter where you go. That’s why you come here to get all these things.’’
