YINDJIBARNDI, MAORI AND NYIYAPARLI JOURNALIST RANGI HIRINI TO START A NEW YOUTUBE SHOW “BLACK SPLAINING” THE NEWS
West Australian journalist Ms. Rangi Hirini has started a YouTube channel to “blak splain” important events in the news.
Born in Port Hedland to Maori and Indigenous parents, Ms. Hirini started working in journalism as West Australia’s only reporter at NITV telling news across the state.
Since then, Hirini’s public profile has skyrocketed now writing as a columnist for the West Australian which she says she gets positive and negative feedback.
”People are triggered because they are challenged, and I am happy to keep challenging them“.
Ms. Hirini was hand-selected to be part of a project that was done in development with Google to create video content.
Her new channel “Paint it Blak” premiered last week with the story of Elijah Doughty, a young man who was killed by a vigilante in a ute in Kalgoorlie in 2016.
