BOXING IN WYNDHAM PROVES A HIT
A local police officer in Wyndham is collaborating with an Aboriginal corporation to hold boxing classes for the community.
Wyndham Police Sergeant Gary Thwaites began holding boxing lessons In the Kimberley town for kids of all ages twice a week but has since started holding classes for adults as well.
Sgt. Thwaites said the assistance he’s received from The Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation has helped build positive relationships.
“I do it in conjunction with WYAC, which is the Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation which works in town, and they’ve got staff there that bring all the boxing gloves and the bits and pieces that go with it,’’ he said.
“I’m the one that actually runs the class and uses their equipment and gets the kids involved and everything like that.
“So it’s very much a good relationship with the local service provider there.”
