A Yamaji woman said a member of the public assaulted her inside Karratha Police Station last week, yet police ended up arresting her instead.

Sandra Ryan said she was there to complain about a man who had almost run her down in a car, but the man had followed her to the police station and lifted her bodily off the floor.

“When a female goes into a police station for protection, that’s what happens to her,” Ms Ryan said.

“In front of the police to get lifted up by a male off the streets who’d been talking aggressively prior to that, in front of the police in the police station, and no one does anything but then pursue the female: What the hell is that?”

Ms Ryan said she then left on foot to have her injuries examined at the local hospital, but Police pursued and arrested her.

Police have been contacted for comment.
