Janine Dureau, a proud Nyikina woman, stands at the forefront of leadership within the Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Council.

Currently, Janine finds herself immersed in the Wiyi Yani U Thangani Institute workshop, a gathering of Indigenous women's voices and knowledge. Held on the sacred Ngunnawal country in Canberra, this workshop serves as a powerful platform for sharing stories, advocating for change, and shaping the future.

Janine’s presence resonates—a testament to the strength of Indigenous women who continue to shape history, culture, and community. Her journey is one of empowerment, and her voice echoes across the vast Australian landscape.

Wiyi Yani U Thangani means ‘women's voices’.

Janine said: ‘'I believe through the Institute this will form unity amongst all of us First Nations women to be able to empower one another. Understand that united we have to address the issues that we have around gender justice, learn issues that we have within our communities, and the solutions. We want to empower and rebuild our family and community structures into the future.’’
