Troy Cassar-Daley talks about how "In The World Today" helped him heal following his father's suicide

Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung singer-songwriter Troy Cassar-Daley’s Aria-award-winning album “In the World Today” was written during a tumultuous time in his life.

While the artist admits this record is a departure from his usual cheery tunes- the record continues the tradition of his songs speaking to the honest lives lived by everyday Australian’s- taking snippets from his personal life.

The album touches on George Floyd’s death in America, the Black Lives Matters movement and the personal story of his own father’s suicide.

Mr. Cassar-Daley said he got healing from this album, following his father’s suicide.

“After my father’s suicide, I was asking a lot of questions. Why didn’t he call me, why didn’t he confide in me”?

He said the album gave him light, but it gave people something too.

The album has gone on to win Best Country Music Album of the Year at the Aria awards.
