“THEY’RE NOT BEING LISTENED TO, THEY ARE BEING TOLD’: ERNIE DINGO PLANS TO SIT WITH PILBARA TRADITIONAL OWNERS TO HEAR ABOUT VACCINE CONCERNS

Yamaji superstar Ernie Dingo will be touring around Northern Western Australia for the next two months to boost flailing Indingeous vaccination rates.

The new campaign is called vax the outback and will be focusing first on Pilbara to address vaccine hesitancy and encourage vaccination among first nation people.

Vaccination of Indigenous people in Western Australia is currently lagging with only 32.6 per cent of Indigenous people being double vaccinated.

Actor Ernie Dingo said to Ngaarda media he will be sitting down with Pilbara Indigenous people to understand why there is a reluctance.

“ People tell them what they got to do. you got to do this you got to do that. Well, we don't tell our old people what to do. We learn from them. My job is to go and sit down with those old people.” Mr Dingo said.

That's what my job is - to go sit down with the old people, have a yarn with them listen to what they got to say.  What's important to make their Community safe?  I’ll find out those answers when I go to sit down with the mob.”

Juluwarlu Aboriginal Corporation, CEO Lorraine Coppin has mandated the vaccination for all employees working at the Ganalili Centre and Juluwarlu. in Roebourne WA.

“We made the decision to keep our Elders safe. We have not had any formal complaints as yet.”

Mr Dingo has been vaccinated and will visit Strelly, Port Hedland, Roebourne, Tom Price, Wakathuni and Karratha next week.

“If the mob says we don’t want the jab because we don't know anything about it. Well, okay, we'll get people to come and sit down and talk with them about it. And if they choose then after, that's their decision.”

Ngaarda Media will work with alongside Mr Dingo when he arrives in Roebourne.
