THE HORT WITH HEART. GARDENING WORKSHOPS WITH SABRINA HAHN.

Karratha City Council is running a gardening competition called “Ready Set Grow”.

The idea is to encourage people in the Pilbara to be proud of where they live and make the town and all the surrounding towns look greener and more sustainable, giving a sense of place to the people who live here.

Sabrina Hahn - known as the ‘Hort with Heart’ said “it's really about embracing way you live and making the most of it”.

Sabrina Hahn is best known as a broadcaster on radio gardening programs for over 25 years. This weekend though Sabrina will be sharing her green fingered wisdom to gardeners in the Pilbara, in a series of workshops on Saturday at 3pm at the Karratha Community Garden and then on Sunday at 10.30am at the Dampier Community Garden. So if people are interested in getting the best out of their garden come along to the community garden for some advice from a gardening expert.

We asked Sabrina where her passion for gardening came from? Sabrina admitted that it actually came from her family. Her mother and grandmother were fantastic gardeners and the family lived in lots of different places around Australia. Sabrina recalled “it didn't matter where we went because the first thing that my mum did was she would put in a veggie garden.”

She went on to say that “it was important for for us to be able to grow our own food plants in particular and make the make the area around the house so much more enjoyable”. So if you have a garden around your house that you think might win the “Ready, Set, Grow” competition you have until July 5th to enter. Who knows attending Sabrina’s workshop might be the help you need.
