As more and more Aboriginal people give up smoking, some are taking up a new habit.

Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service representative Brent Walker, who leads one of many Tobacco Lifestyle teams across Australia, said young people were increasingly turning to vaping.

He had a simple message.

“If you see your friend vaping or you see your family vaping, if you’re a young fella just don’t start vaping at a young age, it does damage your lungs,” he said.

“And you can become adicted. Vaping can lead on to smoking cigarettes.”

The Australian Council on Smoking and Health is urging Australian governments to introduce new legislation banning e-cigarettes for juveniles.
