SERIOUS CONTRACT FOR NYIYAPARLI
Today Newman celebrated a $9.2 million fencing contract going to a local Aboriginal business.
BHP awarded the contract to Karlka Fencewright, a 100 per cent owned business of the Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation, to provide fencing panels to BHP’s six residential villages in Newman.
The fencing is decorated with art work in the form of steel panels by Nyiyaparli elder and Traditional Owner Victor Parker.
Mr Parker said he would like to see more Nyiyaparli artists display their art.
Quite a few people out there can do art work but people get shame to draw sometimes,” he said. “We don’t like cameras, you know.”
