ROEBOURNE STATUE UNDER REPAIR

A damaged statue at the Mount Welcome lookout in Ieramagadu, Roebourne is in the process of being repaired and will be reinstalled as soon as possible, according to the City of Karratha.

The statue, representing the Mardudhunera language group, stood alongside six others representing different groups who live in the local area but was found knocked down last week.

On the same day, a local man pleaded guilty to vandalising the statue and two others earlier in the year.

Prior to the more recent damage, the three statues were reinstalled.

A City of Karratha spokesperson said the matter had been referred to police and it was unclear whether the more recent damage was due to vandalism or weather.
