JACK BREARLEY FACES COURT FOR THE ALLEGED MURDER OF CASSIUS TURVEY
Jack Brearley, the man accused of the alleged murder after a vicious assault in October last year on Master Turvey, appeared by video-link at a call-over hearing at the Supreme Court yesterday alongside three other defendants to the murder charge.
Mr Brearley cut a small figure, seated with folded arms behind a desk in a narrow room at Casuarina Prison. He was not required to speak other than to confirm his identity by replying yes. One by one, Brearley's co-accused appeared on the video screen in Court 6.
Magistrate Whitbread heard from the Prosecution that Brearley was ready for trial but that his co-accused, Mitchell Forth, Aleesha Gilmore and Brodie Palmer were not, having been charged in January 2023, several months after Brearley was charged by police in October.
The matter was adjourned until 24 May to allow the three co-defendants to prepare to have their cases listed in the Supreme Court.
The four accused were remanded in custody.
Master Turvey’s immediate family did not attend.
