In Roebourne, the shortage of staff at a community service has forced it to close its school holiday program, leaving children with nowhere to go.

Yaandina Community Services has been looking for staff since Covid, and has been unable to fill key positions.

Yaandina CEO Emma Dumbrell said there is nowhere for workers to stay due to the Pilbara’s rental crisis.

“It’s not ideal not to have a program running during the day in the school holidays for the kids of Roebourne, but we just literally have no staff,” she said.
