RAIN PREVENTS SOME STUDENTS FROM GOING TO MARBLE BAR SCHOOL TODAY

The Bureau of meteorology reported 54.4 millimeters of rain for Marble Bar yesterday and today that rain has prevented some students from going to school.

Ngaarda Media’s Tangiora Hinaki spoke with Principal Shane Wilson.

“What we're noticing is the creek that separates the town is rising rapidly and causing some risks for people in Marble Bar, including some of our families. So our student’s attendance today is very low. Fortunately our school officer, Julia Coffin was able to cross the river but she did explain to me that people really do need to exercise caution in doing so,” Mr Wilson said.

I am anticipating that the crossing will continue to increase, and the forecast for this week is rain every day. So we are expecting some localised flooding here in Marble Bar this week.”

Marble Bar primary school provides students with work packages and secondary students are involved with the schools for isolated and distance education.

“That provides our students with an online forum. And if any of our students require a laptop or internet connection, we can provide that for our students but most of our students are quite proficient with online learning and to continue their access to the site.”
