The Pilbara Regiment will for the first time in its history, officially receive its official colours.

The regiment traces its origins to the 5th Independent Rifle Company in Port Hedland in 1982, before being re-designated in 1985 and moving to Karratha as a full regiment.

The colours will be officially presented by the Governor of Western Australia, Kim Beazley on behalf of the Queen.

Leftenant Damien Geary says regimental colours have a long history.

“….the colors were used on Military parades back in the Napoleonic times where soldiers would form around the colors and they were the most sacred thing that represented the regiment so they would fight to protect the colors at all times. Today we use them for ceremonial events, but they symbolize the regiment and we hold them in very hard regard and I only use for those very important ceremonial moments”.

Nguluma woman and Sergeant, Maria Martin Peterson says ceremonial spears will also be presented to the regiment.

“I will be actually supporting the elders. Hopefully we will have Elders who come along to the to the event and also to support the gifting of the spears to the regiment.”

The Colours Parade begins at 6pm on October 15th at Windy Ridge Oval in Dampier
