PAKAM'S WEEK OF WORKSHOPS IN WARMUN

From the 2nd to the 9th of September, Pilbara and Kimberley Aboriginal Media (PAKAM) ran workshops at the Warmun Art Centre, 200km south of Kununurra. The workshops taught local community members how to use modern media technology to help them tell their stories.

Community member Vince Skeen participated in the week of learning, noting a very spiritual and touching Mantha (welcome to country) smoking ceremony. “Some of the people here are first-timers, and it really touched them deep down”. Vince mentioned that despite the many ideas floating through his head, he focused his creative storytelling on a topic close to home. “We’re doing a story on the effects of the black market in Hall’s Creek and what’s happened. Has anything changed since the grog ban has been imposed?”. PAKAM hopes to run more workshops in the future so that Warmun locals like Vince can continue to learn how to share their stories with digital media.
