NGAARDA MEDIA WIN THREE NATIONAL COMMUNITY RADIO AWARDS

Ngaarda Media has won three categories in this year’s national Community Radio Awards.

They were for Excellence in Journalism, Excellence in Indigenous Broadcasting and Station Leadership.

In Cairns on Saturday night, station manager Taniora Hinaki accepted the awards at the end of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia conference.

“Wajiwarlu to the Ngaarda Media board, to the Ngaarda Media team, and of course to our audience who listen to Ngaarda News, who engage with us on our social media platforms,” she said.

Ms Hinaki won the Station Leadership Award for the management of Ngaarda Radio.

The Excellence in Indigenous Broadcasting Award was won for Ngaarda’s story on a Karratha man who was wrongly accused of the abduction of Cleo Smith.

The Excellence in Journalism Award was won for a story on a Noongar boy silenced at his school by a Deputy Principal.
