NEW TECHNOLOGY COULD HELP COMBAT INGREDIENT FRAUD IN THE NATIVE BUSH FOOD INDUSTRY
Northern Australia Aboriginal Kakadu Plum Alliance announced a new technology that will reduce food fraud in the Australian bush food industry.
The new technology uses an X-ray which was created by the Australian Nuclear, Science and Technology Organisation.
It then maps the unique elements in the soil and then matches them with each gubinge fruit.
Kakadu Plum Business Development Manager Paul Saeki said ingredient fraud is a significant issue with fake Kakadu plum extracts sold by China to international businesses.
He said this technology will help combat ingredient fraud.
“If you give them a piece of fruit it tells you where the fruit is from”, said Mr. Saeki.
NAAKPA hopes to map Gubinge all over the top end over the next three years.
“We can use this in a lot of different ways once we create a database, we can use it to deduce whether they came from Indigenous producers”.
