As one woman dies after a domestic violence incident every 10 days in Australia, State, Federal and Territory Women's Safety Ministers have launched a new National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children by 2022-2032.
Bunuba woman June Oscar, who is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social justice Commissioner, said domestic violence was at crisis point for Indigenous women.
“There seriously needs to be a far better response,” she said. “And that response will happen and be effective if Indigenous women are there a the table co-designing the policies and programs that seek to invest in the solutions across the country.”
Ms Oscar is a member of the Australian Human Rights commission, which welcomes the National Plan to End Violence against Woman and Children and calls on State and Federal Governments to commit enough money to make it work.
Governments released the plan on Monday.
