NEW FILM EXPLORES CULTURAL IDENTITY
A new documentary film by a young Yawuru man from Broome who has just graduated from Curtin University will be showcased in film festivals across Australia and around the world.
Jason Haji-Ali’s “Through Her Eyes” is tells the story of his family through conversations with his grandmother Phillis Haji Ali.
“It was a really good opportunity for me to explore my own stories and my family’s stories,” he said. “It ended up being that I could use documentary to look at how I could use documentary to understand my family and myself.”
Haji Ali, who grew up mostly in Perth, said the toxic effect of social media was another strong theme in the film.
“Through Her Eyes” can be seen playing on repeat in one of the galleries at Fremantle Arts Centre until July.
