NDIS CONCERNS AIRED IN ROYAL COMMISSION CONSULTATIONS

Concerns about difficulties accessing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) have been raised in community consultation meetings being held across the country for the Disability Royal Commission.

On Saturday, a meeting will be held in Karratha where people with disabilities and their carers will have a chance to share their stories and recommendations.

Disability Royal Commission community engagement worker Peter Murphy said some themes had emerged from the consultations held so far.

“Accessing and working with the NDIS has been a theme that has come up quite strongly through all of our consultations,” Mr Murphy said.

“In the more regional areas, we’re certainly hearing stories around difficulties accessing the services [people] need to make life easy.”

The Royal Commission will make its recommendations to the Federal government in September 2023.

Saturday’s meeting is at Lotteries House, Karratha, at 10.30 am.
