MURUJUGA TRADITIONAL CUSTODIANS PROTEST OUTSIDE MINISTER PLIBERSEK'S OFFICE

This morning, Save Our Songlines launched their east coast campaign for protection of Murujuga, the Burrup Peninsuka outside the Minister for the Environment Tanya Plibersek's office in Sydney.

The Murujuga traditional custodians came together with Gadigal and surrounding mobs to share stories of similar experiences and demand protection of sacred rock art from Burrup Hub industry.

They stood outside the office of Minister Plibersek, who is soon to make decisions that will determine whether Woodside’s Burrup Hub industrial expansions proceed.

Murujuga traditional custodian Mark Clifton delivered a statement outside the Minister’s office.

“We are here this morning in Gadigal country to stand with traditional custodians around the country in opposition to the federal government continuing to allow the industry to desecrate our culture, our communities and our Country,” he said.

Gadigal Elder Aunty Rhonda Dixon-Grovenor stood in protest outside the office in solidarity.

“As a traditional custodian and Elder of the Gadigal - Warrane and the Bidjigal saltwater Basin, I give my wholehearted support to our guests that have travelled from the Pilbara to bring a message about the importance of protecting their sacred areas at Murujuga on the Burrup Peninsula,” she said.
