MUM AND DAUGHTER JOIN THE RESERVES

A mother and daughter who are Aboriginal education workers are set to become part time soldiers in Karratha.
Lucille Jimbidie and Scartisha Ningella make up two thirds of the current intake of Indigenous recruits.
Ms Jimbidie, who is a Walmajarri-Nyikina woman originally from Fitzroy Crossing, said she hoped they would become role models to their families.
“To show that you can do things and make a change in your life, you know?” she said. “You don’t have to be in one place in the community and you know, there’s more to life, you can make a change anytime, you're not stuck. Maybe give them a little bit of encouragement, if Mum Lucy can do it or Sis Lucy can do it, then ‘I’m sure we can do it’. Because I was in the same environment as them, grew up the same way and if I can make the change I’m sure they can.”
They start basic training on July 6.
