MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING IN ROEBOURNE

Free Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid training is being offered in Ieramagadu, Roebourne.

Yamatji woman Kath Ryan, who previously lived in Roebourne for 14 years, is back in town to run the training.

“I have a passion for mental health,” she told Ngaarda Media.

“I think we all know that it’s on the increase with our people now. Sometimes I think we don’t have enough people that have the right skills or the right knowledge on how to do things. This Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid does things like it teaches you how to listen and not be judgmental.”

“It also, I think very importantly, gives whitefellas tips on how to work with our people. I guess what you’d call it is working in Aboriginal ways.”

Workshops will be held at the Yaandina Youth Centre in Roebourne on Thursday and Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.

All are welcome.
