LONG-TERM ADVOCATE FOR INDIGENOUS RIGHTS GERRY GEORGATOS MAKES A BID FOR SENATE
West Australian social justice advocate, Gerry Georgatos who has devoted his life to humanitarian causes, will now make a bid for the senate in the upcoming federal elections.
He will join a team of six people, who will be running as independents.
Georgatos said he wants outcomes and feels people should be called to politics.
“I’ve dedicated all my life helping the marginalised people around the world”.
WHO IS GERRY?
Gerry Georgatos is an experienced human rights advocate and freelance journalist.
Some of the issues he has worked on during his career include deaths in custody, homelessness, and suicide prevention.
Currently, Georgatos is part of a group assisting 250 former Banksia Hill Juvenile detention center inmates to sue the state government for mistreatment.
While Georgatos career has been focused mainly on human rights, his first move to politics started in 2013, when he ran for senate with the Wikileaks party.
Now he will be running as an independent.
SIX CANDIDATES HOPE TO PUSH THROUGH CHANGE
The five candidates who will be joining Georgatos will be Dianne Logan, Megan Krakouer, Riyadh Hakimi, and Jennifer Kaeshagen.
They want to put through legal and legislative reforms, around raising the age of custody, and processes around unnatural deaths in custody.
He would like to start a class action for families of those who experienced deaths in custody.
