First Nations LGBTQI+ Organization Officially Recognised

First Nations Pride Elders Alliance has been given a certificate of registration from ORIC. This means that the group is more organized nationally and can focus on elders and issues such as poverty and lack of services for this particular group.

‘The First Nations Elders Pride Alliance have just registered as a corporation because we've been pretty loose as a collective all over Australia, but we're actually making it formal now to really address issues facing older Aboriginal LGBT people.’

Sydney World Pride will be going ahead next year from the 17th of February to the 5th of March 2023 which First Nations Pride Elders Alliance will be attending. They also hope to hold an event in the Pilbara after Sydney World Pride takes place. The Pilbara Rainbow event will focus on fun, mental health, and suicide awareness with a focus on what it’s like to be LGBTQ within remote communities, however, the Pilbara rainbow festival can only go ahead if funding is sourced.

A world body called Interpride holds the license to put on the event and the First Nations Pride Elders Alliance is one of its 450 Pride organizations globally that are members. This means that they are on the World Pride Committee, the Human Rights and Diversity Committee, and the Racism and Awareness Committee.
