In the Pilbara, the Police Department in the town of Newman has welcomed a new head officer.

WA Police Acting Senior Sgt. Bernadette Mcconnachie has taken over the role of Officer In Charge from Senior Sergeant Ray Anderson at the Newman Police station.

Sergeant Mcconnachie says she’s settling into the town well and wants to have a strong trusting relationship with the community.

“The people in the town are lovely and they’re open and that’s the kind of relationship I’d like to have with everyone in the community,” she said.

“It’s just that open type of relationship that we can just go and have a yarn.”
