BUSH REPELENTS FOR MOSQUITO VIRUS WARNING

The Department of Health has issued a warning that the mosquito-borne Japanese encephalitis virus has been detected in the Pilbara. 

Residents and travelers in the north of Western Australia are being urged to avoid being outside at peak times of mosquito activity.

West Australian Country Health Service Scientific Officer Kimberley Evasco told Wangarri Media that there are certain things you can use in the bush to repel mosquitos.

“With your campfire, having certain wood being burnt, so things like Conkerberry, Cypress Pine, and even Bush Fuesa in some part,” she said.

“Just the protective elements of having the campfire smoke can infused has been a big part of repelling the mosquitoes while we are out in the evening.”
