KUTCHA EDWARDS PLAYS ROEBOURNE PRISON
Kutcha Edwards and other musicians have played a special gig at Roebourne Regional Prison in the lead-up to this year’s Songs for Peace concert in Ieramagadu.
The Mutti Mutti singer and songwriter told Ngaarda Media he’s done a lot of work in prisons and feels connected to inmates across the country.
“As an 18-month-old child, I was institutionalised until I was 11, so the spirit knows what it’s like to be incarcerated,” Mr Edwards said.
“Hopefully [the prisoners] see themselves in me because I certainly see myself in them.
“By they way, [Aboriginal people] are the most imprisoned people on the plant, and that’s an indictment on human rights.”
Mr Edwards will perform in Songs for Peace at the Ngurin Cultural Centre on Saturday evening.
He paid a visit to Ngaarda Media to speak with Yindjibarndi broadcaster Marion Cheedy and play a song. Have a listen to their yarn!
