In the Kimberley, the Kununurra Police are running a horsemanship program for disadvantaged youth.

Teenagers learn cattle mustering and horsemanship skills in the program, which is in its second year.

Police Officer First Class Constable Jarrod Mann runs the program and said it has created noticeable changes in kid’s lives.

”I have not seen such a big turn around in some kids,” he said.

“I have been policing for seven and a half year.

“It’s amazing the kids that we take out there, and when they get stuck into, it its amazing.

“We are hoping that we can get some funding or the government can get onboard and we can make these workshops ongoing.”

He said the program helps at-risk teenagers, but anybody’s welcome.

“We have concentrated on a couple of kids that are disengaged from school and maybe get in trouble with the police, but we have kids that havent got a record and we have kids that have quite an extensive record,” he said.

“They are all just amazing. They are doing such a great job.”
