A young man who grew up around Kununurra and Halls Creek has graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Western Australia

Tex Garstone was supported in his studies by the Jilya Institute’s Dr Tracy Westerman Scholarship.

Mr Garstone has applied for Psychology Honours and plans to continue his studies until he can register as a professional psychologist.

Mr Garstone says he was motivated by high rates of mental health problems and suicide in his family and community.

“I just thought, the only way to help this problem, this epidemic, was to become a psychologist, be on the ground and help out in the communities,” he said.
