On Monday, the City of Karratha waived a significant waste disposal fee for the Ganalili Precinct development in Roebourne.

The Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) is building 10 short-term housing dwellings as part of the Transitional Housing project and requested that the Council waive the six-figure waste disposal fee.

Mayor of Karratha Peter Long said the Council were all in support.

‘‘The actual tip for these is very substantial, over $100 000 for that,’’ he said.

‘‘So they’ve asked us if we would forgo the fee, so that’s really a contribution from us to their project, and so council agreed to the tune of $132 000.’’

YAC CEO Michael Woodley said that the relationships with the City are very positive.

“We’ve always had a very good relationship with the City of Karratha and they’ve always been very supportive in some of the projects we bring to the community,” he said.
