Roebourne country music duo Jokeria have won the WA Country Music Award for Best Traditional Song.

The honour was given earlier this month for their single ‘No Place for Slim’, which is about how country music has changed over the years.

Jokeria member Josh Philpot told Ngaarda Media he’s grateful to everyone who worked on the song and supported it.

“It’s very humbling that a couple of boys from Roebourne could win such a prestigious award,” he said.

“Even just all the success we had, with the song itself, with national [country music charts] number ones and all that, we couldn’t have asked for more.”

‘No Place for Slim’ by Jokeria lyrics:

I went walking down main street in Tamworth
Among the blare of the new country sound
Down an alley in the shadow was an old man
Softly strumming alone on the ground

His thumb pick and Martin seemed tarnished
Yet somehow they rang through the crowds
I drew in to pay more attention
With 3 chords the truth he lay down

Where's the banjo and fiddle long forgotten it seems
Like the cry of the dobro and steel
By the time they've all swept through these dusty sidewalks
There'll be no place for Slim left on Peel

It's been 40 or 50 good years now
Since he and Smokey and Buddy reigned kings
Tell me son have they damned all traditions
Or just the ones in the songs that we'd sing

Where's the banjo and fiddle long forgotten it seems
Like the cry of the dobro and steel
By the time they've all swept through these dusty sidewalks
There'll be no place for Slim left on Peel

By the time they've all swept through these dusty sidewalks
There'll be no place for the king left I feel
There'll be no place for Slim left on Peel
