Five Indigenous entrepreneurs from Western Australia will head to the United States for the South by South West (SXSW) conference next month.

SXSW is a global conference on innovation that takes  place in Austin, Texas, each year.

The state government has provided funding to support Indigenous delegates to present at the conference and receive mentoring.

Nyiyaparli woman and delegate Jahna Cedar said the conference will allow First Nations entrepreneurs to learn about international trade opportunities.

“We always say that us countrymen here, we have the world’s oldest continuing innovators when we look at our mob,” she said.

“How do we ensure that we protect our ancestral knowledges, but also embrace innovation through artificial intelligences? We’re going to have a bit of a wangka about that.”
