Jeremiah Riley, Labor candidate for Durack

Yamaji man and Labor candidate for Durack Jeremiah Riley says he is committed to Indigenous affairs, meeting all kinds of people and getting familiar with people’s needs within the area.

Durack is the largest electorate in Australia and the world in a nation that practices compulsory voting, with an area stretching from the wheat belt to Kununurra.

Mr Riley said he would like to see the Federal and State Governments work together to look at the bigger picture when it comes to crime. He said governments should be working with community elders to assist with crime so that it was dealt with on the ground.

“There's a lot more that the Federal Government could do to work in partnership with the State Government on these issues,” he said. “But I think they need to be more coordinated across the board with regard to working with those community elders and leaders who struggle with crime.”

Mr Riley said he was also focused on improving aged care services and would like to see more people vaccinated to protect elderly people within the community.

“I strongly advocate that people should get vaccinated,” he said. “I encourage everyone out there to get vaccinated to keep our community healthy.”

Mr. Riley said he intended to continue his tour of the electorate in coming weeks.
