Next month, a charity will consult Newman Elders on plans to bring its yoga teacher training to the Pilbara.

Representatives of Yogazeit will travel to Newman to discuss the ‘Deadly Minds’ program with community and stakeholders.

Their team will be in Newman in July. Indigenous Outreach Coordinator, Sharnell Avery said they want to hear the voices of the people, as part of their ‘Listen Week’.

“We spend an entire week just listening digging the in the red dirt and eating bush onions - listening about the stories of the land, listening about the dreaming and all of the things that make that community … that community,” she said.

Ms. Avery said the course is for individuals who want to give back to the community.

“We actually have ten fully funded scholarships for ten individuals that already work with kids or elders or community members in a way that they will be able to help everyone learn some new tools,” she said.

“Not only improve their own well-being but the well-being of their greater communities.”
