INDIGENOUS SKATE CREW TO DROP IN ON IERAMAGADU

This weekend, First Nations skateboarders from across Australia will be in Ieramagadu, Roebourne for a youth skate day.

Mandandanji man Joshua Weribone is a member of Songline Skateboarding, Australia’s first all-Indigenous skateboarding team.

He’ll travel from Queensland for the Radicool Roebourne event.

“Songline Skateboarders just want to come and inject some more positivity into the community and into the skate park,” Mr Wericombe said.

He said they wanted to “show everyone how the skate park can be utilised, as far as tricks and things like that on a board, but also as a safe space where you can come and hang out and be with other like-minded kids and put your energy into something positive.”

Mr Weribone said skateboarding has helped him through difficult times in his own life.

To him, skateboarding feels “free”.

“I know that sounds a bit corny but honestly, it’s kind of an escape from the outside world, from the society that we may get caught up in, and from the struggles that you may go through,” he said.

“There’s no rules, there’s no time limit, it’s just an amazing thing to be able to do and I’m very grateful for that.”

The event will include a demo, a clinic, giveaways and prizes.

It takes place at Roebourne Skate Park from 10 am on Saturday.
